国際コミュニケーション学科では、来週土曜日（7月18日）にオープンキャンパスを行います。

今日は英語のミニ講義を担当いただいているトッド=エンスレン先生にお話をしていただきました。

エンスレン先生は道文教大学で「ボードゲームを通じて楽しみながら英語を身につける」という大人気授業を担当していて、今回はその授業をちょっと味わってもらおう！と意気込んでいます。

Hello everyone! My name is Todd Enslen, and I am an American professor teaching the four skills of speaking, listening, reading, and writing. I have been living and teaching in Japan for a long time and enjoy traveling to interesting towns on my bicycle. I have found that learning a language is more effective when students are motivated and enjoying themselves, so I have used many different kinds of games in my teaching. Not only is playing games fun, but it also is a great way to use all four skills. Therefore, the topic of my lecture at next Saturday’s Open Campus will be “今注目のボードゲーム体験 in English!” In my lecture, I will explain what types of activities students do in class to address the four skills of Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing. I will then give students the chance to experience a game called “Wits and Wages”. In this game students guess the correct number to answer questions such as “How tall is the tallest building in the world?” They then receive points for guessing the closest to the correct answer. The answer is 828 meters, by the way. The name of the building is Burj Khalifa, and it is in Dubai.

皆さん、こんにちは！トッド・エンスレンと申します。私はアメリカ出身の教員で、英語の「話す・聞く・読む・書く」という4つの技能を教えています。日本での生活や教育活動も長く、自転車で面白い町を巡る旅を楽しんでいます。語学学習は、学生が意欲を持ち、楽しみながら取り組むことでより効果的になると実感しており、授業では様々な種類のゲームを取り入れています。ゲームは楽しいだけでなく、英語の4技能をすべて活用する素晴らしい方法でもあります。そこで、来週土曜日のオープンキャンパスで行う私の講義のテーマは「今注目のボードゲーム体験 in English!」です。講義では、授業で「話す・聞く・読む・書く」の4技能をどのように伸ばしていくか、具体的な活動内容を解説します。その後、実際に「Wits and Wages（ウィッツ・アンド・ウェッジズ）」というゲームを体験していただきます。このゲームでは、「世界で一番高い建物の高さは？」といった質問に対し、正解だと思う数字を予想します。そして、正解に最も近い予想をした人がポイントを獲得できるという仕組みです。ちなみに正解は828メートルで、その建物はドバイにある「ブルジュ・ハリファ」です。

I expect students in my classes to actively participate and to try to do their best. Of course, I expect them to communicate only in English, too! I hope many students will come to Open Campus on July 18^th and experience learning English through playing games. I am sure everyone will enjoy playing this game.

私の授業では、学生の皆さんには積極的に参加し、ベストを尽くしてほしいと思っています。もちろん、やり取りはすべて英語で行うことが基本です！7月18日のオープンキャンパスに多くの学生の皆さんが参加し、ゲームを通じて英語を学ぶ楽しさを体験してくれることを願っています。きっと、このゲームを皆さんに楽しんでいただけるはずです。
