Overview of the Educational Development Center
The Educational Development Center is a university-wide organization whose purpose is to revitalize education at Hokkaido Bunkyo University by organizing systematic educational curricula and strengthening implementation structures at Hokkaido Bunkyo University and its Graduate School, by examining faculty development (FD) and improving teaching methods, and by developing and promoting good practices.
The Education Development Center is an organization that, under the direction of the Director (President), is responsible for internal quality assurance of educational activities at the university-wide level, curriculum level, and course level through consultation between the Vice Director, Directors, and staff.
With regard to improving the curriculum, the Educational Development Center will formulate basic policies from a university-wide perspective and may request improvements from departments and other departments.
Regarding Faculty Development (FD), the Educational Development Center will hold FD training sessions with the aim of developing the following abilities necessary to become a teacher who can deliver high-quality, effective lessons based on a proven track record as a researcher or practitioner:
- Ability to create knowledge through research and as a practitioner
- Ability to convey to students the value of the course and the importance of learning
- Ability to design and evaluate lessons to provide lessons with content and methods appropriate for students (lesson design ability)
- Ability to provide lessons that motivate students and increase their desire to learn (including the use of ICT)
- Ability to cooperate with off-campus companies and on-site training sites to inspect and evaluate the value of classes
- Ability to teach basic human skills necessary for social life
- Ability to constantly improve classes using student class evaluation surveys, etc.
