Nurturing physical therapists who support the community through team medical care

The job of a physical therapist is to support the recovery and maintenance of motor functions lost due to illness, injury, or disability. In response to the social background of an aging population and the spread of health consciousness, the scope of work is expanding to a wide range of fields such as medicine, nursing care, and sports, and more advanced knowledge and skills are required. Students will acquire broad education and advanced specialized knowledge, as well as learn about their role in medical team work. With the generous support of teachers with extensive clinical and educational experience, we will train physical therapists who are considerate of the feelings and environment of others.

The exciting job of occupational therapy

The job of an occupational therapist is to treat and support disorders of the mind, body and occupational functions so that people can carry out various tasks in their daily and social lives (activities and daily activities that are important for each individual to live) in a way that suits them. We train occupational therapists who can cooperate and collaborate with multiple professions, contribute to health issues in the local community from the perspective of medical care and health, and research and study to improve the quality of medical care and health care throughout their lives while keeping in mind the progress of globalization, and contribute to its development.

The Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy programs within the Department of Rehabilitation at our university have been certified by the Rehabilitation Education Evaluation Organization as training institutions that meet certain standards regarding facility standards and curriculum necessary for rehabilitation education.

This accreditation is the result of an impartial evaluation by a third-party organization regarding our educational philosophy, faculty structure, curriculum, clinical training, and other aspects. Being an accredited institution guarantees the quality of our rehabilitation education.

Furthermore, the Occupational Therapy program meets the educational standards set by the Japanese Association of Occupational Therapists and the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT), allowing students to receive occupational therapist training that conforms to international standards.

What is rehabilitation?When we think of rehabilitation, we often imagine trying to restore the physical functions of someone who has been injured or ill.
This way of thinking is not wrong, but the word rehabilitation has a broader meaning.
The word "rehabilitation" comes from the Latin re (again) and habilis (suitable), and it can mean "freedom from an innocent crime," "restoration of honor," and "return to work" not only in the medical field. The World Health Organization (WHO) defines rehabilitation as "Rehabilitation includes all measures aimed at improving the decline in capabilities and their condition, and achieving social integration of people with disabilities.
Furthermore, the purpose is not only to provide training for people with disabilities to adapt to their environment, but also to modify the environment and society to promote the social reintegration of people with disabilities. And people with disabilities themselves, their families, and the local community must be involved in planning and implementing rehabilitation.
